If you’re looking for a vegan chef who not only inspires you but also challenges your culinary skills, look no further than Gaz Oakley. I’ve been following him for about 8 or 10 years, and I can honestly say he’s one of the first people I turned to when I started my vegan journey. His recipes have been a major part of my kitchen adventures, and I can’t help but be obsessed with them.
Now, I have to say—his recipes aren’t for beginner chefs. They can be a little more sophisticated, sometimes even a bit tricky. If you don’t already have some cooking experience, they might feel a bit challenging at first. But that’s part of the fun, right? It’s all about pushing yourself and creating something amazing. His recipes often use ingredients that might be on the pricier side, which can be a factor if you’re sticking to a tight budget. But when I want to make a statement—whether it’s to impress friends who claim they “only eat meat” or to create a wow factor for a first date or special occasion—Gaz’s recipes are my go-to. I can guarantee that whatever dish you cook from him will have everyone asking for the recipe!
His YouTube videos are just as fantastic. Gaz has this incredibly calm, chill energy that makes his videos not only easy to follow but also super pleasant to watch. The aesthetics of his channel are so visually pleasing, and his gentle approach to cooking makes even the most complicated recipes feel achievable. As a skilled cook myself, I can tell you that his recipes are well worth the effort, even if they take a couple of tries to perfect. Sometimes, you’ll need to cook something two or three times before it’s spot on, but that’s part of the learning process.
One of my absolute favorite dishes is his chickpea omelette—it’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and it’s something I make all the time. It’s simple, but it has that “wow” factor that never fails to impress. If you’re looking for something new to try, this recipe is a must!
And let’s talk about his cookbook, Vegan 100. It’s one of the most beautiful cookbooks I’ve ever owned. Every page is colorful, engaging, and packed with recipes that are a joy to read and follow. The layout is clean, the instructions are clear, and each recipe is written with love and care. I’m planning to get more of his cookbooks in the future because I know they’ll be just as wonderful as the first one.
While his recipes might require a bit of experience in the kitchen, the payoff is worth it. Gaz Oakley has truly made a name for himself by turning vegan cooking into an art form. If you want to try something new and impress your friends (or yourself), I highly recommend checking out his work. I’ll leave links to his cookbook, website, and the recipe for his chickpea omelette below—trust me, you won’t regret it!
